Located in the western part of the Valencia Region, the area has been a Denomination of Origin since 1932. It is composed by 9 towns councils, Utiel being the more important one and the centre of the Domination of Origin. The municipality of Utiel is part of the "CAVA" zone of Spain.
Irrigated by the Magro and the Caballero rivers, it is 40.000 hectares in area and has 130 wineries.
The wine tradition of the are dates from the VII century, as proved by the amphora's found in the iberic archaeological site of Los Villares de Caudete de las Fuentes, called Kelin.
